A locked Bootloader in your Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 or any other Android phone prevents you from installing all those cool Custom ROMs, or even rooting in some phones. Every manufacturer like Xiaomi has their own version of bootloader intstalled on their phones. With a locked bootloader phone manufacturers want you to stick to their own version of Android version. Thought it may be better for some cases like security or stability, but with an unlocked bootloader, possibilities of your phone are endless, okay so enough with the talking, let’s get to unlocking bootloader of xiaomi redmi note 3. Keep in mind, this is an official and manual way of unlocking the bootloader of xiaomi redmi note 3, it may take some time and still be rejected. If you do not intend to install a custom ROM, then you are good without an unlocked bootloader.
How to unlock the bootloader of Xiaomi Redmi note 3:
Open a browser go this official url of Xiaomi to unlock phones : http://en.miui.com/unlock/.
Now you are on the official page of unlocking your Xiaomi Device, just click on the Unlock Now button.
You will be redirected to a login page. It’s in Chinese in the time of writing this, you can just type your username and password if you have one and login, or if you need to create an account, you better translate the page into English using Google’s translate feature.
Now you will be redirected to unlock permissions page of Xiaomi Devices.
Now you need to fill in all the details of the from that’s shown and click on the apply immediately button.
In the reason to why you need to unlock the Bootloader, it’s better if you enter the reason in Chinese. You can write your reason to unlock in English and than translate it to Chinese using Google translate or you can copy this : 我的手机是砖砌在启动循环模式。请批准我的请求开锁。it means “My phone is bricked in boot loop mode. Please approve my unlocking request.”
Now in the next page you will need to enter a verification code that is sent to your phone via SMS. It usually takes not more than 2 minutes to receive an SMS from Xiaomi Server. Once you receive the code immediately enter it as it’s validity is for a short duration of time.
NOTE : Do not repeatedly press the resend button if you do not receive the code immediately, as they may block your IP address for doing so. Wait for around 5 Minutes before doing so and if you get an error message, just try 24 hours later.
Once you have succeeded, you will just have to be patient and wait for the Xiaomi developers to approve your unlock request. It may take upto 21 day for them to unlock your device. You’ll receive a verification SMS after your request has been granted. Now if you are lucky they will have approved your request and your can finally proceed to unlock your Redmi Note 3. Remember, if you are on a Qualcomm version(Outside China), then you need to flash China Developer ROM to continue with unlocking.
To install China Developer ROM, download recovery ROM from this page : http://en.miui.com/download-301.html and save it to your phone.
Now open the update app in your phone, it’s pre installed. After opening the update app, click on the three menu dots of the top right and select choose update package and browse to hte location where you’ve saved your developer ROM that you just downloaded and let it complete the update process.
Now you are in the final stage of Unlocking your Redmi Note 3. Download Mi Flash tool from here : http://xiaomitips.com/download/mi-flash-unlock-tool/ and install it in your PC.
Login to your Mi account in your phone.
Turn off your device and press and hold power and volume down button together and your phone will be booted into bootloader mode.
Open the Mi Flash tool that you’ve installed on your computer and login into it with the sme account with which you logged into your phone.
Now connect your phone to your PC with a USB cable.
Finally the last step to unlock your phone! After a while the Unlock button will become active and your can just click on it to unlock the device. It will take around 30 Seconds and your device will be unlocked!
